This Audi Q8 came into our Birmingham studio wearing its original blue. The owner wanted a full colour change. The chosen film was Teckwrap SMT03 Satin Metallic Venetian Violet, a material that shifts between deep purple and pink depending on the light and the angle. The scope of the job included a full exterior wrap and spray-painted brake calipers in a matching purple to complete the build.
Why Venetian Violet Works on the Q8
The Q8 is a large, broad vehicle. Its body surfaces are wide and curved, which means they catch light across a significant area. A colour-shifting film takes full advantage of that. Teckwrap SMT03 reads differently from the front, the side, and the rear, and the Q8 gives it the canvas to do so. The deep purple tones suit the car’s proportions. The pink shift that appears under direct light adds something that a flat colour simply cannot deliver. The satin finish keeps it measured rather than theatrical.
The Work Involved
A full wrap on a car this size involves a significant amount of film and a significant amount of time. The Q8 has long door panels, a wide bonnet, and complex geometry around the front grille and rear bumper that requires careful relief cuts and precise heat forming to sit flat. We removed the necessary trim pieces to ensure clean shut lines and wrapped into every edge properly. The colour-shifting nature of the film also means that panel alignment matters more than usual. Mismatched application angles can produce tonal inconsistencies under certain lighting. Every panel was approached with that in mind. The brake calipers were spray-painted separately in a purple that sits in the same colour family as the film, tying the two elements together without competing with them.
Protection and Reversibility
The original factory paint is preserved underneath the film in the same condition it was in when the car arrived. The wrap acts as a barrier against stone chips, light abrasion, and general road debris. Should the owner wish to return the car to its original colour at any point, the film can be removed cleanly without damage to the underlying paint. The brake caliper paint is a permanent finish, but the body wrap is entirely reversible.
The Finished Result
The Q8 left the studio as a different car in every meaningful sense. The Venetian Violet shifts across the bodywork in a way that changes with every viewing condition. The calipers reinforce the colour without being forced. The result is cohesive and deliberate.
