Twin Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG PPF Paint Protection Film in Birmingham

Two brand new Mercedes-Benz G63 AMGs came into our Birmingham studio at the same time. Both factory fresh. One finished in gloss, the other in satin. The owner’s brief for each was the same: full paint protection film applied to both vehicles before they went anywhere near a road. We covered each one completely, preserving the paint from the moment it left the factory.

Why PPF Makes Sense on a G63

The G63 is a large, upright vehicle and that shape means it collects road debris in places a lower, more aerodynamic car does not. The flat, vertical front end takes the full force of stone chips, motorway grit, and insect impact at speed. The wide body panels, the bonnet, and the door faces are all exposed surfaces with nowhere for debris to deflect away from. Applying PPF to a car like this on day one is not a luxury addition. It is the correct decision if you want the paintwork to remain in its original condition.

The choice between gloss and satin PPF on these two cars also demonstrates how the film works across different finishes. The gloss vehicle retains the depth and clarity of its factory paint. The satin vehicle carries a flat, refined surface that changes the character of the car entirely without touching the underlying colour. Both outcomes are intentional and both are reversible.

The Technical Work on Two Large SUVs

Working on two vehicles simultaneously to the same standard requires discipline and organisation. The G63 has large panel areas that demand precise film placement and consistent squeegee pressure across a wide surface to avoid trapping moisture or creating lifting points at the edges. The door shuts, the bonnet surround, the mirror housings, and the rear tailgate all require the film to wrap into the recesses cleanly. On a vehicle at this price point, every edge and every join has to be invisible under inspection.

The satin PPF carries an additional consideration. Any mark left during the application process reads differently on a flat finish than it would on gloss. Pressure marks, fingerprints, and adhesive residue are all more visible. The process is slower and requires a careful approach at every stage of the install.

Protection and Reversibility

Both G63s left the studio with their factory paintwork completely intact beneath the film. The PPF will absorb stone chips, fine scratches, light abrasion, and environmental contamination that would otherwise mark the paint permanently. Self-healing film recovers from surface marring under heat, keeping the finish looking clean without intervention. When the owners choose to remove the film, whether to change the finish or to present the car for sale, the paint underneath will be in the same condition as the day it was delivered.

Taking both vehicles through a full PPF installation before any road use means that protection is in place from the first mile. There is no catching up to do and no areas of the car that have already taken damage before the film went on.

The Finished Result

Both G63s left the studio exactly as they should. The gloss car is sharp and clean. The satin car is composed and distinctive. The film on each is flat to the surface, invisible at the edges, and correctly finished in every shut line and recess.
