This Porsche Cayman came to us at Wrapart in Birmingham with a clear brief: take a car that already turns heads and push the finish into a different category entirely. The owner wanted something that would move with the light and stand apart from the usual colour choices. We wrapped the full exterior in Hexis Super Chrome Light Blue, a cast film with a high-intensity chrome-like surface and a distinct blue shift that reacts differently to every viewing angle. The result is a complete transformation of the car’s visual presence.
Why Light Blue Super Chrome Works on the Cayman
The Cayman has a sculpted, flowing body. The transition from the roofline down through the rear haunches and into the diffuser area creates a surface that is constantly changing in direction. A finish like Hexis Super Chrome Light Blue is designed for exactly that kind of geometry. Where the panels curve, the chrome shift becomes more pronounced. Where the surface is flatter, you get a cooler, more subdued reflection. The light blue tone sits in an unusual space, not as aggressive as a full silver chrome, but with considerably more presence than a standard metallic. On a Cayman specifically, it reads as purposeful rather than loud.
The Technical Considerations of Wrapping a Chrome Film
Chrome and super chrome films require a higher level of care during installation than standard cast films. The surface is unforgiving. Any contamination, trapped air, or uneven tension becomes visible immediately under the reflective finish. We take the time to ensure the surface is fully decontaminated and any paint defects are addressed before a single panel is wrapped. The film itself demands precise heat management. Overworking a super chrome film during application will cause it to lose its reflective quality, so technique and timing matter throughout the process. Every panel on this Cayman was wrapped individually, with particular attention paid to the complex curves around the rear quarter and the front bumper detailing.
Protection and Reversibility
Wrapping this Cayman in Hexis Super Chrome Light Blue does more than change its appearance. The film sits over the original paintwork and acts as a physical barrier against stone chips, light abrasion, and UV exposure. The factory paint underneath remains untouched and in the same condition it was in on the day the car arrived with us. When the owner decides to change the look or sell the car, the wrap can be removed cleanly, and the original finish is revealed intact. For a car at this level, that matters. The owner is not sacrificing the value of the original paint to achieve this result.
