When this Nissan GT-R R35 arrived at our studio in Birmingham, the owner had a clear idea of what they wanted. The factory finish did not reflect what the car was, and they wanted something that did. Katsura Orange was the answer.
Why Katsura Orange Works on the GT-R
The R35 has a shape that rewards a strong colour. The wide rear haunches, the deep front bumper, and the aggressive bonnet vents all have an intent to them, and Katsura Orange picks that up well. The metallic flake in the film catches light differently depending on the angle, which means the car looks different in motion than it does standing still. That quality suits the GT-R. We paired the orange with gloss carbon fibre accents on the spoiler and trim to sharpen the contrast and give the finish a coherent, considered look throughout.
Wrapping a GT-R Properly
A car like this requires more care than most. The front bumper vents, the hood intakes, and the aerodynamic detailing across the body all create areas where a less experienced installer would cut corners. We stripped back the necessary trim to ensure the colour runs cleanly into every shut line, the edges are tucked and sealed to handle high-speed wind resistance, and nothing looks applied. It needs to look like it came that way. On an R35, anything less shows.
Protection as Well as Presence
Beyond the visual transformation, a high-quality wrap makes practical sense on a car that is built to be driven. The vinyl sits over the original paintwork, protecting it from stone chips and road debris. For a GT-R, which tends to hold its value well when kept in good condition, that protection is worth having. If the owner ever wants to change the colour or return to stock, the process is fully reversible with the original paint untouched underneath.
The Finished Result
The completed GT-R is a car that looks exactly as fast as it is. Katsura Orange is not a colour that asks to be ignored, and on the R35’s bodywork it earns every bit of attention it gets.
